    How to be visible on Google's AI previews in 2025?

    Google’s results page has changed significantly since the early 2000s. Today, the search engine no longer just presents us with a list of links. It answers our questions directly using generative artificial intelligence. So yes, this new feature does mean a drop in click-through rates and traffic. But all is not lost. It is still possible to be visible on Google’s AI overview. And yes, AI overviews cite their sources. Your goal? To be among those sources. How can you do this? Here are a few tips. 

    1 – Update your content to be visible on the AI preview 

    To avoid losing traffic due to AI overviews, companies have no choice but to meet the requirements of Google’s algorithm and large language models. However, these models favour reliable and recent sources. 

    So don’t hesitate to update your content. As soon as new data or figures appear or change, modify your pages. This is all the more important as it will enable you to achieve 25% more engagement than if you allow your old content to deteriorate. 

    Bonus tip: remember to add the year to your titles and keywords. This shows language models that your content is recent. They don’t need to search for it.

    2 – Take care of your structure to be cited by AI overviews

    LLMs are machines. They do not read your content like a human being, but like computers trained in natural language. And even though their capabilities are improving day by day, they are most effective when the content is simple and accessible. There is no need to use long sentences with incomprehensible jargon. Get straight to the point. 

    This applies to both content and form. To be visible on the AI preview, your content must be organised in such a way that an 8-year-old child can understand the main points. What does that mean?

    • Clear headings (h2 and H3),
    • Concise paragraphs (maximum 300 words),
    • Bulleted lists,
    • Summaries at the top of the page, 
    • Summaries,
    • Summary tables, 
    • Boxed definitions, etc. 

    3 – Strengthen your brand image 

    Being visible on Google’s AI overview means being cited as a reliable source. For AI overviews, it’s not a question of citing just anyone. Artificial intelligence must mention sites that have a certain authority in their field. 

    To do this, they rely on brand image. The more recognisable your brand is, the more likely you are to appear in AI previews. 

    Now, how can you strengthen it? Social media can help you do this. But so can your netlinking strategy. Provided you adapt it. It is no longer just a question of creating external links, but of being mentioned directly by external sites. 

    4 – Responding to the search intent 

    For a long time, SEO experts were content to simply meet the requirements of Google’s algorithm. But this was often to the detriment of the user. This is no longer possible if you want to be visible on the AI preview. And yes, from now on, artificial intelligence will respond on your behalf. 

    So do the same by thinking ‘internet user first’. They ask a question. Answer it without waffling or beating about the bush. 

    This requirement also gives prominence to long-tail keywords. With AI overviews, internet users are asking increasingly long and personalised questions. Take note of them. 

    5 – Analyse your performance for all Google results 

    Being mentioned by AI overviews does not happen overnight. It is up to you to test and analyse. Which queries trigger AI overviews? How do internet users behave in response to these queries? 

    To do this, use tracking tools such as Google Analytics. You can then adjust your strategy accordingly.
