    Elon Musk is preparing to launch advertisements on Grok

    On 6 August 2025, Elon Musk announced the launch of advertisements on Grok. Advertisers would thus be able to promote their brands directly in the AI responses of X’s chatbot. So why such a change? What does this mean for advertisers? And for users? Let’s take a closer look. 

    Why is Elon Musk developing advertisements on Grok? 

    Elon Musk is launching advertisements on Grok primarily to develop a new source of revenue. 

    The context 

    Since Elon Musk took over Twitter/X, the social network has experienced considerable turbulence. The cause? A policy that encourages the spread of fake news. The result? Users are deserting X, which they consider too toxic. Advertisers are doing the same. They no longer want to be associated with a media outlet whose image has been so damaged. 

    For X, this is a serious blow. The platform has lost 79% of its market value in the space of two years. Advertising now accounts for no more than 60% of its revenue (compared to 90% before the takeover). 

    In order to turn things around, Elon Musk is innovating. Starting with the introduction of a new intelligent assistant directly connected to X. For the billionaire, the goal is to make it “the most intelligent and accurate AI in the world”. 

    So far, this strategy has been successful, as Grok’s revenues have skyrocketed in recent months.

    But is that enough to make up for X’s losses? Not yet. 

    Especially since the development of AI involves financing expensive GPUs to power it. Advertising appears to be a lifesaving solution. 

    The arrival of advertisements on Grok  

    On Wednesday, 6 August 2025, Elon Musk makes a sensational announcement to X advertisers. They will soon be able to insert advertisements into the responses of his AI chatbot Grok. 

    In addition to increasing the platform’s advertising revenue, this decision would enable brands to gain visibility among a highly qualified target audience. 

    What changes for advertisers?

    With the integration of advertisements on Grok, advertisers could benefit from the latest technological advances: 

    • Greater visibility: despite the controversy, Grok is one of the most downloaded apps (ranked third in the App Store). This means that many users could discover your brand and your offers through the advertisements displayed. 
    • Better targeting: powered by xAI technology, Grok is able to understand your target audience and their intentions more accurately. It can display your adverts when the intention to purchase is strong, thereby maximising your conversion rate. 

    For users, the arrival of X’s AI-powered advertisements is intended to remain useful. According to Elon Musk, “If a user is trying to solve a problem, then advertising the specific solution would be ideal at that stage.”
